Rectilinear Translation Motion
1. Uniform Motion (constant velocity)
2. Variable Acceleration
If the variation of velocity or acceleration given in the problem is in the form of differential equation. Velocity is the ∆S (refers to the distance) with respect to time and acceleration is the ∆V (refers to the velocity)with respect to time.
Acceleration can be the second derivative of the distance. (Learn the derivative or the differential calculus here.)
SAMPLE PROBLEM
Find the velocity and acceleration of the car after 20 seconds. The velocity of the car which is starting from rest is
.
SOLUTION:
First substitute the value of time t which is equal to 20 to the equation given to get the velocity.
Next, differentiate the equation to get the acceleration.
3. Constant Acceleration
4. Free-Falling Body
